TRY-SCORING INTERNATIONAL DEBUT FOR KRIS  by Iain Grant
Wed 4th Mar 2009
TRY-SCORING INTERNATIONAL DEBUT FOR KRISCaithness rugby youngster Kris Hamilton made a try-scoring debut to his international career at the weekend.

The eighteen-year-old notched the sixth of the eight tries in Scotland Under-19s’ 55-13 victory over Italy at Lasswade.

Hamilton (scoring above - image © SRU), an apprentice at Dounreay, came on as replacement scrum-half with just under half-an-hour to go in Sunday’s friendly.

Speaking after his return, he said he had thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

He said: “Waiting to get on, I felt under a bit of pressure but once I was involved, I felt pretty confident and really enjoyed the game.

“I saw a fair bit of action and it was a bonus to get the try.”

“The squad has come together well and we were on the front foot for most of the game.”

Hamilton’s moment of glory came when he sniped through an undefended gap after gathering from a driven line-out in the Italy 22.

Stand-off Ross Aitken, who scored two tries, three conversions and a penalty, won the man-of-the-match award.

The other tries came from lock forward Aaron Hall, prop Andrew Fraser, centre James Johnstone and wingers Dougie Fife and Max Learmonth.

The display delighted coach Colin Robertson.

He said: “It is very encouraging for Scottish Rugby to see these results and for our team to win by nearly 50 points is a proud moment for the players and coaching staff.”

Hamilton, of Nordwall Park, Reiss is now looking forward to being involved in the under-18s final outing of the season, away to France on April 4.

Before then, the squad has several training sessions.

Meantime, Hamilton will be turning out for Caithness as well as helping mentor the scrum-halves coming through the club’s youth ranks.
