SATURDAY WIN WOULD HELP TO STEADY THE SHIP
Fri 29th Jan 2010
The Greens tomorrow venture to the South side of Glasgow to fulfil the first of their six remaining engagements in Scottish Hydro Electric National League Division 2.

A win against bottom-side Cambuslang would help seady the ship after a sticky spell in which they have lost three of their last four matches.

A victory would also bolster their chances of a top-half finish to the campaign.

Coach Colin Sangster is calling on his squad to bounce back from Saturday's demoralising reverse to Lasswade.

"It was an all-round poor performance", said the coach. "What is particularly worrying s that it wasn't just a case of it being 'one of those days'.

"There's a recurring theme emerging of us being found wanting when we are being put under pressure by the better teams in the league.

"That affects our performance and we find ourselves a few points behind and then we try to play catch-up."

Sangster said the loss of flanker Stevie Campbell early on was a major blow while a misfiring at the half-back link and a huge turnover count blunted their attackiing threat.

Sangster is looking for a reaction against Cambuslang, who are battling to save their skin.

Norman Foubister could fill in the scrum half, subject to work commitments and his recovery from a sternum injury.

Winger David McCarthy is available again and Andrew Sangster returns to the back row.

League leaders Greenock Wanderers were fully stretched on Saturday before prevailing 24-19 away to Preston Lodge.

Glasgow Accies maintained their promotion challenge with a runaway 48-0 home win over Stewartry.

Highland completed a league double over Kilmarnock after their 9-0 victory over the Ayrshiremen in Inverness moved them a point behind Caithness.

Cambuslang's survival hopes took a knock as they went down 22-12 in Newton Stewart, while Hawick YM continued their impressive home form with a 33-24 defeat of Waysiders Drumpellier.
