| NEW RECRUITS WELCOME AT TRAINING by Iain Grant |
| Fri 2nd Jul 2010 |
Rugby training gets underway for the forthcoming season at Millbank on Tuesday evening. Caithness R.F.C. is keen to welcome new recruits, irrespective of experience or skill level.
The club intends to fulfil fixtures at 1st and 2nd team level and coach and director of rugby Colin Sangster is seeking to expand the playing pool.
The Greens will line up for their fifth season in National League Division Two.
This follows the defeat of a move at last weekend’s SRU agm to revamp the league structure to cut down on the amount of travelling and expense faced by clubs.
Caithness had supported the bid, which would have seen it involved in a Caledonia League in the fourth tier of the proposed new set-up.
As it is, its participation in NLD2 will see an increase in its already huge mileage fulfilling fixtures at the other end of the country.
Relegated Preston Lodge, based in Prestonpans, and Cambuslang, and promoted Greenock Wanderers and Lasswade, are replaced by demoted NLD1 duo Berwick and Annan, NLD3 winners Allan Glens and NLD3 runners-up Aberdeenshire.
Caithness 2nds are not competing in a league but several fixtures are already lined up for them, including the plate final of the Brin Cup, held over from last season.
Andy Morris remains captain of the 1st XV with Dougie Gunn elected 2nd team skipper.
Training at Millbank is at 6.45 p.m. for a 7 p.m. start.
